According to the report, after discussions with various government departments/ministries, experts and women and child rights activists, it was decided to take action against OTT platforms. This action has been taken under the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000.

Why was the tough decision taken?
According to the report, a large part of the content shown on these platforms was found to be obscene and portray women in a derogatory manner. There was a lot of vulgarity in them. Relationships between teachers and students were shown. Wrong family relationships were depicted.
The special thing is that among the OTT apps on which action has been taken, one app had received more than 1 crore downloads. Whereas two apps were downloaded more than 50 lakh times on Google Play Store. To reach out to the people, these apps used to show such scenes on their social media apps, which could attract the audience.
