Russian space agency Roscosmos has failed in some recent space missions, but even today it is a big player in this sector. A Roscosmos astronaut has set a new record for the longest stay in space and has broken the previous record of one of his colleagues. According to the information, Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko has become the passenger who stayed in space for the longest time.

According to AFP, 59-year-old Oleg has spent more than 878 days and 12 hours in space. His colleague Gennady Padalka had made a record of staying in space for 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 48 seconds in 2015, which has now been broken.

However, Oleg Kononenko has made this record not in his one space trip, but in 5 space trips since 2008. It is noteworthy that astronauts from Russia and other countries including America go to stay at the International Space Station (ISS) 400 kilometers above the earth and complete space missions while staying there.

Oleg, an engineer by profession, told Russia's state news agency TASS that due to the constant upgrading of the ISS, each journey to the ISS requires careful preparation. He said that he likes to fly in space. He does not go there with the aim of making records. Oleg said that he wanted to become an astronaut since childhood.

Oleg Kononenko's current visit started on 15 September 2023. He flew with NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara and his colleague Nikolai Chub. It is believed that when he returns, he will complete 1,000 days in space.
