The Moon is shrinking Causing Moonquakes and Faults Near South Pole new study says

A new study has given shocking information about the Moon. It turns out that the Moon's interior is gradually cooling and shrinking. Due to this, earthquakes and faults are increasing on the Moon. Some faults are occurring near the South Pole of the Moon, where India's Chandrayaan-3 mission had landed. The US space agency is also planning to land the Artemis 3 mission in the same area. Let us know whether the projects of NASA and other space agencies will face a setback due to the shrinking of the Moon.

The recent study has been published in the Planetary Science Journal. Funds for the study were arranged by NASA. It is revealed that the Moon is continuously shrinking. Over millions of years it has shrunk to 150 feet. Because of this, earthquakes are occurring on the south pole of the Moon.

With the help of NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter i.e. LRO, thousands of small and new thrust faults have been detected on the surface of the Moon. Because of this, some of the earthquakes occurring on the Moon were also recorded by the Apollo Passive Seismic Network. This network was installed on the Moon by the Apollo space mission passengers about 50 years ago.

The biggest reason for the shrinking of the Moon is being said to be its formation. According to the report, the Moon was formed due to the collision of asteroids and comets. Due to this, the inner part of the moon got heated which is now cooling down. It is being said that as the moon cools down, it will shrink further.

Although it would be wrong to say that this will have any major impact on future Moon missions. NASA or any other space agency has not said that the shrinking of the Moon and the earthquakes occurring there will have any impact on future Moon missions.
