Apple Beats Samsung in global smartphone market share growth in 2024
Improvements are visible in global smartphone shipments
Global smartphone shipments declined by 3.2 percent on a year-on-year basis. However, the good thing is that sales reached 326 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to only 300 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022. This growth was seen after 7 consecutive quarters of decline.
For the first time, Apple dominated the smartphone market in the entire year as well as in the fourth quarter. The brand shipped 80.5 million units in the fourth quarter, while shipping 234 million units during 2023. Apple had 20.1 percent market share in 2023. Samsung had 19.4 percent market share with 226 million shipments, placing it in second place. The South Korean brand is expected to ship 53 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023. Xiaomi ranked third in terms of total shipments last year with 12.5 percent market share. OPPO took the fourth position with 8.8 percent market share and Transsion took the fifth position with 8.1 percent market share.
Transsion ranked fourth in fourth quarter shipments with 28.2 million sales and 8.6 percent market share, registering a growth of 68 percent year-on-year. Vivo took the fifth position with sales of 24.1 million units and 7.4 percent market share. Samsung's shipments declined by 10 percent in the fourth quarter compared to the same period last year. On the basis of year-on-year performance, only Apple registered a growth of 3.7 percent and Transsion registered a growth of 30.8 percent.
