A Cisco researcher has revealed a major flaw in iOS, OS X, tvOS and watchOS. Due to this shortcoming, the risk of malware attack on these operating systems has increased which is embedded in an image file. If this malware is not detected, the attacker will be able to achieve remote code execution on the affected device.

Tyler Bohn of Cisco Telos said that users can receive this file through MMAS or email, or it can also get on the system by visiting suspicious pages.

Operating system vulnerabilities can be exploited through TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), BMP, DAE, and OpenEXR image formats. TIFF and BMP formats can affect OS X, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS. OpenEXR and DAE can affect OS X machines.

The good thing for the users using these operating systems of Apple is that the company has removed this deficiency through the latest version iOS 9.3.3, OS Have given. If you are using a version older than this, our suggestion would be to update to the latest version as soon as possible.

Regarding this shortcoming, Bohan said, “Image files serve as a convenient medium because they are very easy to distribute through web and email traffic.”
