Apple Working on Clamshell Style Fold iPhone and Folding iPad says Report

Apple's first mixed reality headset (Apple Vision Pro) went on sale in the US earlier this month and sold out quickly. Apple's foldable phone has also been discussed for a long time and there is a lot of talk about it these days. The company is said to be developing 'at least two' iPhone prototypes that fold horizontally. These can give a direct challenge to the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, it is not clear whether the company will mass produce foldable phones in the next few years or not.

A report by The Information, quoting an internal source, claims that Apple is making prototypes of at least two clamshell-style foldable iPhone models. A similar form factor is also found in Samsung's Flip series, due to which the phone's screen folds horizontally.

However, Apple's devices seem to be in the initial phase and it is believed that the company will not manufacture them on a large scale this year or next year.

It is also said that the company is thinking of making a foldable iPhone, which will have a display outside the device and will be visible when the device is folded. However, Apple engineers reportedly found it difficult because it could break. Apart from this, the company also wants to develop a foldable iPhone that is 'as thin as the existing iPhone models', but this is also facing problems as the battery size and display components are increasing the thickness of the device. It is said that the company has contacted a supplier in Asia for components of two foldable phones.

The company is also said to have a foldable iPad in the pipeline. It will have an 8 inch display. Currently, Apple has not made any official announcement related to the foldable device. Samsung currently dominates this market. Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Vivo, OnePlus and Oppo have also launched fold phones. If Apple falls in this category, users will definitely benefit.
