This year has started well for the country's automobile companies. Most of these companies have registered growth in January compared to the same period last year. Nearly four lakh cars were sold in January. Sales of Maruti Suzuki, one of the big car makers, increased by about 15.5 percent to 1,99,364 units. The company had sold 1,72,535 units in the same period last year.

Tata Motors' sales in January have increased by 12 percent on year-on-year basis. The company sold 54,033 units including electric vehicles (EV) last month. Its sales in the same period last year were 48,289 units. Tata Motors' export of passenger vehicles has also increased. The company has exported 400 units in January. This is an increase of about 32 percent compared to the same period last year. In the last few months, Tata Motors has launched updated versions of Harrier, Nexon and Safari. This has contributed significantly to the growth of the company. The company's growth in the EV segment has been 69 percent on year-on-year basis. Recently it launched the electric version of Punch. It ranks first in the electric car segment with about 85 percent share.

South Korea's Hyundai Motor's wholesales in January increased by about 8.5 percent to 67,615 units. In the same period last year, the company had sold 62,276 units. Hyundai's sales in the country increased by 92 percent to 24,609 units. In the same period last year, the company had sold 12,835 units.

Sales of Honda Cars have increased by more than 10 percent in January to 8,681 units. The company's exports have also increased. It exported 4,531 units in January. The SUV Elevate, launched last year, has a major contribution in the company's growth. The company launched Elevate in September last year. Its average sales each month are more than 4,000 units. Honda Cars had sold 7,821 units in January last year. Elevate has helped Honda cars in increasing sales in the last few months. Recently, Honda Cars had increased the price of Elevate by Rs 58,000. Its starting price is Rs 11.58 lakh. The price of its top-end dual-tone variant has increased to Rs 16.48 lakh. The compact SUV Elevate has a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine.
