Cyber criminals hacked 30 lakh smart toothbrushes to attacked a online services company

According to a report, cyber criminals hacked about 30 lakh smart toothbrushes. However, this did not cause any harm to the users. Smart toothbrush was used as a weapon by cyber criminals and pushed so much traffic on the website of an online services company that it crashed.

According to the report, this was an unexpected attack, which targeted the website of a Swiss company. Cybercriminals introduced malware into smart toothbrushes and used it to carry out a denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. As a result, the website of the Swiss company crashed for several hours and the company suffered financial losses.

This has further increased the concern that cyber criminals can target people and businesses using any device connected to the Internet. According to the report of GizmoChina, the Swiss branch of cybersecurity firm Fortinet has been at the forefront in giving warnings in this matter. He has emphasized on identifying the shortcomings related to devices connected to the Internet.

Fortinet conducted an experiment. His team connected an unprotected computer to the internet and the computer was infected in just 20 minutes. The report said that the increase in IoT devices in homes and businesses has increased opportunities for cyber criminals. They can carry out DDoS attacks with the help of these instruments. Even online services can now be accessed through a smart toothbrush.
