Windows 11 has now officially launched. Microsoft's new Windows operating system is released in July 2015, almost six years after the release of Windows 10. This update is being called the “next generation” of Windows and it brings several major visual changes over the previous version. It also includes a brand new boot screen and startup sound. The Start menu is placed in the middle instead of on the left and the Start menu window has also been changed. Elements like the “Hi Cortana” welcome screen and live tiles have been removed in Windows 11.

Windows 11 features

One of the biggest changes we've seen in the recently leaked iOS is the new interface. It starts with a new setup screen. Menus and windows have rounded corners, similar to recent iPadOS. You will now see the Start menu in the center. However, you can change its location and move the Start button to the left by going to its settings. The updated Start menu does not include any Live Tiles, which were part of Windows 10. There is also a dedicated Search button next to the Start menu, which helps users find apps and preloaded tasks on the latest Windows platforms.

New sounds and alerts have been added to Windows 11, including a brand new startup sound. There are also small changes in gestures. Plus, you'll get new themes, some new wallpapers, and an improved dark mode. Windows 11 brings new widgets, which can be brought up by swiping in from the left side of the widget screen. For a better multitasking experience, the Maximize button now gives you the option to split the active screen between different parts of the desktop. Microsoft is calling this new experience Snap Layouts. This layout lets you open multiple different screens on your computer at once simply by hovering your mouse over the maximize button. Many pre-defined layouts are also included in it.

Additionally, Microsoft has improved multiple monitor support and it has become easier for users to work on virtual desktops. Virtual desktops look much the same as how you used to add multiple desktops on Apple's macOS. Windows 11 comes with an improved touch keyboard that also includes GIF integration from Tenor. It also has preloaded virtual keyboards, which can be placed anywhere on the screen. Users can also utilize voice dictation support throughout the system. There are also options like voice typing and voice commands to make your typing easier. Apart from this, several interface-level changes have also been made for better touch experience.

Microsoft has also increased the performance of browsers based on Chromium. Additionally, Microsoft Edge now comes with vertical tab support. The new Windows includes support for Auto HDR and DirectX 12 Ultimate. It also includes an xCloud integration to enable cloud gaming. Microsoft has also added new features to its preloaded app store – Microsoft Store – on Windows 11. The design is also new.

Windows 11 availability, free upgrade

Windows 11 will initially be available for testing to Windows Insider members starting next week. It will be available as a free upgrade to Windows 10 users later this year and will come pre-installed on new PCs. Microsoft has also released the PC Health Check app for people to check whether their Windows 10 PC is upgradeable or not. It is also being speculated that the company will also bring the new operating system to Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems. However, Microsoft has confirmed to Ocean of Gadgets that users with Windows 7 PCs will need to purchase a Windows 10 license first and can upgrade to Windows 11 later. However, for this they need to check the efficiency of their system. In 2022, customers will also have the option to purchase Windows 11 at retail and install it on eligible Windows 7 devices.

Windows 11 minimum hardware requirements

Microsoft said it has worked with all major silicon partners, including AMD, Intel and Qualcomm. However, if we talk about minimum hardware requirements, Windows 11 will not be as light as Windows 10, as to run it, the system needs at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage as well as at least a 64-bit x86 or ARM processor. May need it. In contrast, Windows 10 requires at least 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
