HMD Global Drops Nokia Branding From Official Website X Account New Devices Coming Soon All Details
The Nokia.com/phones website is now redirected to HMD.com. Its X ID is now @HMDglobal instead of @nokiamobile, reflecting the company's change. HMD's official website states that the company is all about establishing a core HMD brand along with bringing in phones from new partnerships. “We're still the makers of Nokia smartphones and Nokia dumbphones, but we're ready to bring you even more, including original HMD devices and phones from all new partnerships,” the website reads. The portfolio will include smartphones, tablets and feature phones.
In a teaser video shared on the company's website, HMD Global highlights the Human Mobile Devices name currently emphasized behind its acronym. It states that HMD is “the manufacturer of Nokia phones”.
HMD Global was founded in 2016 when Microsoft sold its rights to the Nokia brand for ten years. Nokia 6 was launched as the first handset by HMD Global in 2017.
Information about the name of the first HMD smartphone and its launch date is currently unknown. As per previous leaks, the handset is codenamed N159V and includes a dual rear camera unit, consisting of a 108-megapixel primary rear sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) support. It is expected to come in black and cyan color options with a plastic frame. It is also expected that it will be launched at the MWC event to be held in Barcelona.
