Marsquake that shook red planet for 6 hours in 2022 Scientists discovered caused
The impact of a 4.7 magnitude earthquake on Mars lasted for 6 hours. This was the most powerful and longest earthquake to occur on any planet. According to Space.com, after landing on Mars in November 2018, the InSight lander has recorded more than 1,300 earthquakes there. About 8 of those earthquakes were caused by asteroids.
At the same time, the earthquake recorded in May 2022 also seemed to be a possibility of asteroid attack, but when the matter was investigated, it was not found to be so. If that earthquake had been caused by an asteroid, then a crater would have been formed on Mars due to the impact of the asteroid, but this did not happen.
Orbiters from India, China, Europe and UAE searched the crater, but could not find it. After several months of search, scientists have come to the conclusion that the cause of the earthquake was tectonic disturbance. Researchers are trying to understand why some areas of Mars are more stressed than other areas of the planet. This discovery will help scientists decide which areas of Mars can be inhabited by humans in the future.
