India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki reported a total sales figure of 1,37,551 units in December 2023, which includes both domestic and export sales in the passenger vehicle (PV) and commercial vehicle (CV) segments. . This marks a decline compared to 1,39,347 units in December 2022 and 1,64,439 units in November 2023. However, the company performed well in the utility vehicle segment like Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Fronx and sold 45,957 units, which was an increase of 12,949 units on year-on-year basis.

Giving information about the sales figures of Maruti Suzuki, Rushlane said that in the financial year 2023-24 (April to December), Maruti Suzuki sold 15,51,292 units, which was 14,51,237 units in the last financial year. However, the mini car segment, which includes models like Alto and S-Presso, hit a historic low with sales of only 2,557 units in December 2023, down from 9,765 units last year.

The report shows that the compact segment with models like Baleno, Celerio, Swift, WagonR also declined year-on-year and only 45,741 units were sold last month instead of 57,502 units in December 2022.

It appears that Maruti Suzuki's focus on the utility vehicle segment including models like Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Ertiga has proved fruitful as the company sold 45,957 units last month as against 33,008 units sold in December last year. Overall, 4,60,588 units were sold in FY 2023-24, up from 2,60,172 units in the previous financial year.

Eco is the only van in both PV and CV segments, contributing 10,034 units in December 2023 and a total of 1,36,010 units in CY 2023.

The report further suggests that while domestic passenger vehicle sales declined marginally to 1,04,778 units in December 2023, total domestic sales (PV+CV+OEM) are expected to decline marginally to 1,10,667 units in December 2022 from 1,17,551 units. Went. However, Maruti Suzuki experienced an improvement in exports, with shipments of 26,884 units in December CY 2023 and a total of 2,69,046 units in January to December CY 2023.
