Taj Hotels group Data Breach: Cyber criminals have breached the data of Taj Hotels Group. A report has claimed that the personal information of about 15 lakh customers is in the hands of cyber criminals and they can leak it if the demands are not met. The name of a cyber criminal called 'Dancookies' is coming to light in this case. He has demanded 5 thousand dollars (approximately Rs 4,16,549) in exchange for the dataset. According to the Economic Times report, the hotel group has said that it is investigating the matter.

What did cyber criminals steal?

ET's report states that the data thief has captured a lot of personal information of the customers of Taj Hotel Group. All the details including customers' addresses, membership IDs, mobile numbers have reached the cyber criminals. The customer data that was breached by 'DunCookies' is said to be from the year 2014 to 2020.

Data has not been leaked yet

The good thing is that the criminal has not yet leaked the data to anyone. But he has put three conditions. Business Daily has written that the criminal wants a middle man in this case, who holds an admin position. The criminal has made it clear that he will not give any data sample.

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which runs the Taj Group, has also given a statement on this matter. Its spokesperson has said that the criminal named 'Dancookies' is demanding 5 thousand dollars in exchange for the entire dataset. We have become aware of a person who is claiming possession of a limited customer set. The hotel group has also admitted that the cyber security watchdog and Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) are aware of this data breach.

The hotel group says it is investigating the perpetrator's claims. The concerned authorities have been informed. The company has said that customer data is most important for it.
