Tata Motors Registers 12 Percent Growth in Passenger Vehicle Sales in January, Holds Top Rank in Electric Cars

Tata Motors, one of the big automobile companies, has seen its January sales increase by 12 percent on a year-on-year basis. The company sold 54,033 units including electric vehicles (EV) last month. Its sales in the same period last year were 48,289 units.

Tata Motors' export of passenger vehicles has also increased. The company has exported 400 units in January. This is an increase of about 32 percent compared to the same period last year. In the last few months, Tata Motors has launched updated versions of Harrier, Nexon and Safari. This has contributed significantly to the growth of the company. The company's growth in the EV segment has been 69 percent on year-on-year basis. Recently it launched the electric version of Punch. It holds the first position in the electric car segment with about 85 percent share. Manufacturing of Tata Motors' compact SUV Nexon has reached six lakh units.

Last year the company also launched its electric version. It competes with Maruti Suzuki's Brezza, Mahindra's XUV300 and Hyundai's Venue. Its price ranges between Rs 8.10 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in four variants – Smart, Pure, Creative and Fearless. It has 1.2 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engine options. Its petrol engine gives peak torque of 118 bhp and 170 Nm. Its petrol engine has options of 5 speed, 6 speed manual, 6 speed AMT and 7 speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). Its diesel engine gives 113 bhp and peak torque of 260 Nm. It is available with 6 speed manual gearbox and 6 speed AMT.

The price of its electric version ranges between Rs 14.74 lakh to Rs 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in three variants – Creative, Fearless and Empowered. It comes in two battery packs. Its variant with 30 kWh battery pack has a range of about 325 kilometers. Its 40.5 kWh variant gives a range of about 465 kilometers. Recently, Tata Motors had requested the Central Government not to give tax exemption on hybrid cars. Toyota, the leading company in the hybrid car segment, had demanded reduction in tax on hybrid vehicles.
