Toyota Kirloskar Motor Sells More than 2.33 Lakh Units Last Year

Last year, the wholesale sales of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), one of the big automobile companies, increased by about 46 percent to about 2.33 lakh units. The company's models like Fortuner and Urban Cruiser Hyrider have been helpful in increasing its sales.

TKM's domestic sales in December stood at 22,867 units, an increase of nearly 119 percent. The company has SUV and MPV as well as hatchback Glanza. Recently it launched MPV Rumion. The company said that its growth has been strong and customer interest in its products is increasing. TKM has also increased its production capacity. It has informed about investing about Rs 3,300 crore in setting up the third factory in Karnataka. This factory will provide employment to about 2,000 people. This Japanese company is planning to increase its production in the country. It has two factories in the country whose capacity is about 3.42 lakh units per year.

Recently Toyota Motor Corporation achieved an important milestone. The company has crossed the total manufacturing mark of 30 crore vehicles, almost 88 years after manufacturing its first vehicle Model G1 truck. These include vehicles manufactured in the company's factories in Japan and other countries. In September this year, Toyota had achieved the figure of manufacturing 30 crore cars. Of these, more than 18 crore units have been manufactured by the company in its factories located in Japan and many other countries. Among these, Corolla has the maximum units of more than 53 crores. It is among the most popular cars worldwide.

Challenges including electric vehicles (EV) have increased for Toyota in the last few years. The world's largest car maker in terms of production volume dominates the passenger vehicle segment in the international market but the company's sales in India are not high. Its models like Fortuner hold a big share in its segment but it is weak in the small car segment. Recently, Toyota had demanded the central government to reduce the tax on hybrid cars. The company argues that hybrid cars cause less pollution as compared to petrol cars.
