Countless asteroids may exist in the infinite world of space. Out of which about 16 thousand asteroids are said to be near the Earth. It has not yet been discovered how asteroids were formed. Scientists consider them to be scattered pieces of planets. They are continuously rotating around the Sun in the solar system. Besides, their structure also resembles that of the planets. Therefore, it is believed that asteroids were formed along with the planets. But asteroids become dangerous when they come close to the Earth. There is a possibility of their collision. That's why NASA tracks them.

NASA has today issued an alert for an asteroid the size of an airplane. This rock is going to come close to the earth in a few hours. Its name is Asteroid 2023 YD which is 92 feet wide. NASA has compared its size to an airplane. The asteroid was discovered only in 2023. It is going to pass close to the Earth on December 28. When it will be at its closest point to the Earth, the distance between the Earth and the asteroid will be only 6 lakh kilometers. NASA says that an asteroid falling within a radius of 75 lakh kilometers can prove dangerous. According to this, this asteroid is going to come very close.

NASA alerts regarding asteroids are coming almost every day, which tells that they are continuously targeting the Earth. Yesterday also a big asteroid passed near the Earth. This asteroid was 72 feet. Its name is said to be 2023 X01. It has passed close to the Earth for 24.1 lakh kilometers.

Asteroid collision with Earth is considered a very rare event. But the possibility cannot be ruled out. Because compared to the size of the planet, asteroids are quite small. In such a situation, Earth's gravity can easily pull them towards itself. According to the National Science Foundation, Earth's gravity is so powerful that it can pull an object towards itself at a speed of 9.8 meters per second. In such situations, sometimes meteorites also get pulled towards the earth. The fall of both asteroids and meteorites on Earth can be harmful.
