Blue Light Glasses Not actually Protect Eyes or Improve Sleep says new study
The trend of blue light glasses has increased a lot in the last few years. It is said that these protect the eyes from the bad effects of the screen and also help in sleeping. But according to NDTV, researchers from the University of Melbourne, and the University of London say something else. Researchers are saying that blue light glasses do not play any significant role in preventing the harm caused by screens. Nor do they improve the quality of sleep.
Author Laura Downey said she found that lenses with blue light filters could prevent eye fatigue caused by computer use for a short period of time. But it has not been proven to be very effective in the long run. In the study, researchers have said that the blue light emanating from the devices does not tire the eyes, but behind this, computer vision syndrome is found in most of the people which is related to sitting in front of the computer for a long time.
The study further says that blue light filters can block only 10 to 25% of the blue light coming from devices. To block more light than this, they should have amber color, but if so much color is given in the lenses then the eyes may have difficulty in recognizing the correct color. Overall, researchers say that lenses that filter blue light cannot be relied upon too much in this matter. More advancement is still needed in this.
