Fleeing Vampire Squid Haunted Earth Oceans 16.5 crore Years Ago Reveals Study
A new study has been published in Papers in Palaeontology in which it is said that a blood-sucking creature has been detected in the study of fossils. It must have been roaming in the sea 165 million years ago. This discovery has been made by French scientists. Scientists have examined and tested the fossils discovered in ancient times with modern technology. In this we have come to know about this squid which might have been a blood sucking creature with 8 arms. Its name has been described as Vampyrofugiens atramentum, which means fleeing vampire in English, which means 'running away vampire' in Hindi.
Researchers say that such features have not been found in any organism till now. It has been said in the study that this creature must have caught its live prey with its arms. Apart from this, to protect itself, it is said to have such a quality that its body parts start glowing at night. Due to which other attacking creatures would run away in fear. Along with this, it might have been using another defense technique. In this the use of ink bag has been described.
Thus, both these features, glow in the dark, and ink sacs, were first found in extinct colloids. According to the report, study author Alison Rowe said that it was both a prey and a hunter. He said that these two features found inside it, he had not seen in any fossil record before. The study says that it may have also been using the technique of illuminating its body parts to communicate. Besides, it would also use this technique like natural light to avoid predators.
