delhi pollution what is artificial rain after diwali government to plan cloud seeding

Artificial Rain in Delhi: The level of air pollution in Delhi is not improving. The Air Quality Index (AQI) remains at 'dangerous' level in all areas of NCR including the capital. Delhi's schools have been closed. To deal with air pollution, the government is now planning to make 'artificial rain' in the capital. After Diwali, there is a plan for 'artificial rain' through 'cloud seeding'.

According to PTI report, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has said that a meeting was held with scientists from IIT-Kanpur to create artificial rain in Delhi. Scientists say that 'Cloud Seeding' can be attempted only when there is moisture or clouds in the atmosphere.

Gopal Rai said, experts estimate that such conditions may arise around November 20-21, when the atmosphere of Delhi may be humid or cloudy. According to Rai, he has asked the scientists to prepare a proposal by Thursday. The proposal will be submitted to the Supreme Court.

What is artificial rain?

To generate artificial rain, the help of 'Cloud Seeding' is taken. In this, various substances are spread in the air to increase condensation. This causes rain. Materials used in 'cloud seeding' include silver iodide, potassium iodide and dry ice (solid carbon dioxide). This technology has been used in many countries of the world. America, China, Australia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have used cloud seeding. Cloud seeding is also done to deal with drought.

This is how artificial rain is made

According to a media report, the 'cloud seeding' solution is sprayed in the sky with the help of an airplane in the opposite direction of the wind. The particles present in the solution reach the sky and freeze. After this it rains.

Approval will have to be taken from center and state

According to the report, Gopal Rai has said that getting approval from both the central and state governments for the use of this technology is a time-sensitive matter. Scientists from IIT-Kanpur had given a presentation on artificial rain to Gopal Rai and his team this year.
