Indian scientists have made a big claim. It is said that turbulence generated in the air during breathing can serve as a biometric authentication method. That means smartphones and other devices can be unlocked with that movement. Its biggest advantage will be that the personal gadget of a dead person will not be unlocked. Mahesh Panchagnula and his team from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai have collected this information from their experiments.

The team experimented with breathing data recorded from air pressure sensors. Initially, the objective of scientists was only to develop an AI model, which could identify patients with respiratory diseases. According to NDTV report, breathing data gave more information than scientists expected.

Researchers found that once the AI model analyzes a subject's breathing data, it can verify with 97 percent accuracy whether the person has taken a new breath or not.

Researchers also tested whether the AI model could differentiate between the breathing of two people or not. He completed this task with more than 50 percent accuracy. Scientists say that the AI model identifies the special pattern of the turbulence created by a person's nose, mouth and throat while breathing.

Although this experiment is preliminary, it is encouraging. At present, many types of technologies are used for biometric authentication, but using breath for biometrics would be completely new. In many films we have seen that smartphones and other gadgets of a dead person are unlocked. Gadgets will start unlocking through breathing, so no one's device will be unlocked after death.
