There are thousands of asteroids near the Earth in space. It is said that these rocky pieces were scattered in space at the time of the formation of the solar system. That is why, like the planets, they are revolving around the only star of the solar system, i.e. the Sun. Space agency NASA is engaged in gathering information about celestial bodies through its various space missions. According to NASA, there are 7.3 lakh rocks scattered in space which are moving in our solar system. Of these rocks, 16 thousand are present very close to our earth. That means a large number of threats exist around the Earth.

NASA continuously tracks asteroids, and issues asteroid alerts in view of the potential threat from rocks coming towards Earth. For this, a branch called Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) of NASA works. According to JPL, today two big asteroids are coming towards the Earth. One of these asteroids is quite big. Let us know about these two.

Today, Asteroid 2023 UV1 is moving towards the Earth at a speed of thousands of kilometers per hour. Its size is 58 feet. For this heavy rock, NASA has said that when it will be closest to the Earth, the distance between the two will be 1,090,000 kilometers. Apart from this, Asteroid 2023 UR1 is also coming towards Earth today. Its size is 120 feet. It is the size of an airplane. It is going to come as close as 834,000 kilometers to the Earth. Asteroids larger than 150 feet can cause significant damage to the Earth.

Both the asteroids mentioned above are going to pass very close to the Earth today. Even smaller asteroids sometimes cause major damage. NASA says that out of 16 thousand asteroids hovering near the Earth, there are 1784 asteroids which can collide with the Earth at any time. Because there is a high possibility of their direction changing due to the gravity of the planet.
