In search of life outside the Earth, scientists are exploring planets like Mars and Venus, they also have an eye on exoplanets. Such planets which do not revolve around our Sun but around some other star are called exoplanets. Space agencies feel that the search for life outside Earth can also be completed on an exoplanet. But their number is not one or two. US space agency NASA has officially confirmed the existence of 5,502 exoplanets outside our solar system.

According to NASA, 6 new exoplanets have been added to this list. Their names are – HD 36384 b, TOI-198 b, TOI-2095 b, TOI-2095 c, TOI-4860 b and MWC 758 c. These new exoplanets include a planet with rocky structure like Earth, a gaseous exoplanet larger than Jupiter and an exoplanet like Neptune.

The exoplanets are listed in NASA's Exoplanet Archive. The characteristics of each exoplanet are also mentioned in the list. The exoplanet was first discovered in 1992. Then scientists detected their presence in our galaxy for the first time. Then exoplanets started being discovered one after the other, but the presence of life has not been confirmed on any of them till now.

In detecting exoplanets, the help of earth-based telescopes as well as space-based telescopes has been taken. NASA launched the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) in 2018, with the help of which scientists have been able to find more than 320 exoplanets. NASA's Spitzer, Hubble and James Webb space telescopes have also detected many exoplanets.

However, scientists have an opportunity with the discovery of new planets. They can now explore such planets in detail to know where life might be possible outside Earth.
