Radiation Fog: It has been extremely cold in the Ganga plains for the last several days. The bone-chilling cold is such that the maximum temperature has also dropped to 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. From Pakistan to Delhi and Bengal, many cities and villages are in the grip of fog. The latest satellite image of the American space agency NASA shows the prevalence of fog. NASA's Terra satellite has taken this picture. It has been classified as radiation fog. Let us know, what is radiation fog?

What is Radiation Fog

According to the US Space Agency, this type of fog forms at night when the temperature on the ground is cool, wind speed is low and there is enough moisture. This fog engulfs the plains and valleys of Ganga.

Due to this type of fog, the traffic system is affected the most. In recent times, due to fog, air services, rail traffic and road traffic have been badly affected. The chances of having an accident also increase in fog.

According to a report, in the year 2022, more than 14 thousand deaths occurred in road accidents due to fog in India while more than 15 thousand people were injured. Due to lack of rain this year, people in North India are facing dry cold.

MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) aboard NASA's Terra satellite took this image on the morning of January 15, 2024. There was dense fog from Islamabad in Pakistan to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

At some places, the blanket of fog appears light, which indicates that these are the areas of Delhi, Agra, Meerut and Rohtak. NASA has called them heat islands.
