OTT Fraud Woman Loses Rs 12 Lakh for Watching Content on YouTube Accused Arrested All Details

A woman has claimed to have lost Rs 12 lakh after falling into the trap of earning money by watching OTT content on YouTube. The woman has lodged a complaint with the police that a person told her about a scheme to earn money by watching OTT content on YouTube. She was promised that if she liked the content and invested more or could bring in more viewers, she would earn more.

According to TOI, the woman, a resident of Thakurpukur, lodged a complaint with the police, following which the police arrested a man named Syed Ahmat. The woman told the police that Ahmat had cheated her of Rs 12 lakh in the name of watching OTT content on YouTube channel. Police said the victims were promised concessions and huge earnings if they liked the content or could bring in more viewers.

After the woman fell into this trap, she invested in this scheme, after which she was added to a Telegram group. But the woman says that later the accused stopped communication completely.

The report further states that on this matter the police say that “We traced the money trail and linked the accused to this case.”

“We are investigating the case further to nab others involved in this case,” an officer said.

Lalbazar officials cautioned that such fraud usually starts with an unsolicited message on apps like Telegram, Viber, Instagram and WhatsApp.
