Scientists Discover Never Before Seen 4 New Species of Deep Sea Octopus Near Costa Rica
The matter does not end with the Dorado octopus. Scientists have found three more new octopus species here. That means the team has discovered a total of four new octopus species. According to the report, these are deep sea octopuses. According to the press release, these octopuses have been found in an area of 100 square miles in size in Costa Rica. The international science team spotted the new species while exploring seamounts as part of two expeditions to 2023. The first expedition was conducted in June in which two octopus nurseries were found in a hydrothermal spring.
Six months later, the scientists returned to the same nursery and found that they remained active throughout the year. After that they found many new octopus species even away from that hydrothermal spring. This discovery proves that there may still be many species hidden in the deep sea that no one knows about. Which are not in the records yet. This will help in learning a lot about the animal diversity present in the sea.
Perhaps even scientists have not been able to accurately estimate to what extent life exists in the depths of the ocean. This is why scientific exploration becomes so interesting because anything can come to light. On the other hand, due to the new species found, the number of interesting marine creatures has also increased. This reveals that there may still be a lot hidden in the sea water.
