It has been said about Oxygen-28 that it can bring a big change in future nuclear experiments. This is a very rare type of oxygen in which the ratio of protons and neutrons is found to be very high. The research has been published in Nature Journal. According to the team of researchers, the nucleus of a molecule contains even smaller parts inside itself which are sub-atomic particles. These are called nucleons. These include protons and neutrons.

The atomic number of any element depends on the number of its protons. But the number of neutrons in it varies. Therefore, elements with different numbers of neutrons are called isotopes of that element. The number of protons in oxygen is 8, but the number of neutrons can be different. Earlier, scientists had discovered that the maximum number of neutrons can be 18 which is found in oxygen-26. It has 8 protons and 18 neutrons, so there are 26 nucleons in total.

But now more neutrons have been found in Oxygen-28. It has 8 protons and 20 neutrons. Scientists have called it magic number. Because it creates doubly magic numbers. The oxygen found mostly on Earth, which we breathe, is oxygen-16, which is a type of double magic oxygen.
